ad. Looking for a magical family day out to round off the summer holidays? A brand-new interactive steam train adventure is arriving at Spa Valley Railway, where families are invited to step through the looking glass and into the wonderfully curious world of Alice in Wonderland.
Running on selected dates from 29 August to 6 September, Alice’s Wonderland Express has been created by PNP Events Ltd, the team behind the hugely popular THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride at Spa Valley Railway. Expect beloved characters, puzzles to solve, plenty of laughter and, of course, a nostalgic journey aboard a heritage steam train.
A wonderfully curious adventure awaits
Something has gone terribly wrong in Wonderland…
The Queen of Hearts’ Royal Train has broken down and she’s far from amused. As she stomps and grumbles her way through Wonderland, Alice, the White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter are desperately trying to prepare everything before she arrives.
The problem? Nothing in Wonderland ever goes according to plan.
From the moment passengers climb aboard, they’ll become part of the story, helping the White Rabbit recover some very important missing words, navigating mazes, solving riddles and discovering surprises along the journey.
It’s an immersive experience designed to delight younger children while giving parents and grandparents plenty to enjoy too.
An interactive steam train journey
Throughout the journey, every child receives an activity booklet packed with Wonderland-themed challenges.
They’ll colour the Queen’s roses bright red, create royal decorations and help transform the train into a carriage fit for the Queen of Hearts herself. Each completed activity earns a special Royal Railway Stamp, bringing the royal train one step closer to being ready before the Queen arrives.
With live character interactions, storytelling and plenty of opportunities to join in, every journey promises something a little different.

One of the highlights of Alice’s Wonderland Express is the chance to travel behind a magnificent heritage steam locomotive.
As the whistle blows and clouds of steam drift past the vintage carriages, families can enjoy all the sights, sounds and nostalgia that make Spa Valley Railway one of Tunbridge Wells’ best-loved attractions.
There will also be opportunities to meet some of Wonderland’s favourite characters and capture plenty of memorable family photos during your visit.
Even better, your ticket also includes unlimited travel on the other Spa Valley Railway services operating that day, meaning you can enjoy even more heritage railway adventures before or after your Wonderland experience.
Plus every passenger will receive a slice of cake and a refreshing cold drink during the journey, with orange or apple juice available. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options are all available when requested in advance during booking.

Advance booking is recommended. Alice’s Wonderland Express runs on 29–31 August and 5–6 September 2026, with departures at 10am, 11.30am and 1.55pm. Subject to availability, tickets can also be purchased from the Tunbridge Wells West ticket office on the day.
