Do you get ridiculously excited about seeing houses adorned in twinkling Christmas lights and festive paraphernalia? There’s definitely something about them that gives me that warm fuzzy feeling! As a parent, it’s lovely seeing the reactions of my kids when they spot a really festive looking house when we are out and about too!
I have put together a list of some of best Christmas lights around Tunbridge Wells and a bit further afield too. Going along to see them is can be a budget friendly thing to do with the kids during what is an expensive time of the year and hopefully you’ll find this post helpful. Thank you to everyone who recommended many of these places below over on the My Tunbridge Wells Facebook page!
PLEASE NOTE – THIS POST IS FROM 2017 SO THE PLACES MENTIONED BELOW MAY HAVE CHANGED THIS YEAR (2018)…
Also congratulations to the legends who have gone to so much effort decorating their houses and gardens this festive season – you are all amazing!
♥ Hawkenbury Road – opposite Hawkenbury Rec, this place has to win the prize for best Christmas lights display in Tunbridge Wells. They do it each year and have a donations box for Hospice in the Weald – so it’s for a great cause too! Here’s a video and it is even better in the flesh:
♥ Liptraps Lane (Sherwood) – There are several places around Sherwood to go and have a look at. When you turn down left by the Robinhood Pub, there are some fantastic festively decorated houses on both sides of the road, with the most spectacular of them all on the far left, further down from the little row of shops. This is one that you’ll want to stop and have a proper look at too! It won’t disappoint…
♥ Sandhurst Road (Sherwood) – there is a lovely display at a house just about opposite the end of Ferndale. Definitely worth a look at as well.
♥ Other roads to have a look at in Sherwood include Greggs Wood Road, Oak Road and Brook Road. We didn’t get a chance to go down all of these yet but I will be going to have a look soon!
♥ Shirley Gardens (Rusthall) – a new addition for 2018, this has been recommended by a reader. We haven’t had a chance to pop along there yet but I will update this post once we have!
♥ Withyham Road in Groombridge – not far the the mini roundabout as you come into Groombridge, on the way to Hartfield
♥ Westfield (near Hastings) – several people have mentioned this and have said it is worth the drive. I haven’t been there myself but the display is apparently magnificent and donations go to St Michael’s Hospice. Find out more HERE or on the Facebook page HERE. Combine it with a trip to the gorgeous town of Rye too?
♥ Farm Close in East Grinstead – apparently they do a fantastic display each year and have a ‘Just Giving’ page to raise money for charity. Check out their Facebook page HERE.
♥ Marsh Green Village (just outside Edenbridge) has a house which is really well decorated each year and looks amazing. The village itself is apparently always pretty at this time of year too.
♥ Edward Street (Southborough) – a lovely Victorian Christmas church scene on the Springfield Road end…
♥ Also In Southborough – check out Summerhill Avenue (several houses there) and Dorrick Avenue as well as Edward Street for a lovely Victorian Christmas Church scene.
♥ Shirley Gardens (Rusthall) – though you may want to give it a week or so as the display usually goes up a little closer to Christmas
♥ Palesgate Lane (Crowborough) – apparently there is an amazing house there
♥ Princes Street & Cambridge Street (Tunbridge Wells) – they do a window advent calendar where each family/house take turns putting up their window display every day
♥ Slade (Tonbridge) – Three houses in a row opposite Castle Car Park.
♥ Also check out Framley Road and Norwood Road in Tonbridge too.
♥ Drusillas Illuminations – I’m told these are excellent too. Find out more HERE.
♥ Tunbridge Wells High Street looks nice a sparkly after dark – check out the festive display above G. Collins & Sons Jewellers and have your pic taken outside The Ivy with their festive lights and colourful bauble trees.
♥ Santa’s Fireside Grotto at Royal Victoria Place is worth a look too, as well as the decorations dotted around the shopping centre and the giant teddy bear (donation in aid of Ellenor charity).
♥ The Pantiles is a must for getting that Christmassy feeling and looks very pretty this year.
If you come across any more places which you think should be included, please do let me know and I can add them in to this post. You can comment below, message me on the Facebook page HERE or email me on email@example.com. Thank you and enjoy!
