ad. Tucked away in one of Kent’s most picturesque corners, Chiddingstone Café and Stores is exactly the kind of spot that feels made for a perfect My Tunbridge Wells outing – especially if, like us, you love nothing more than pairing a good walk with an even better café.

Homemade, local, and seriously good
Nearly everything here is homemade, and you can really taste the difference. The focus on quality ingredients shines through in every dish:
- Sausages are locally made for the café, free-range and gluten free
- Bacon is of the highest welfare standard and even holds a royal warrant
- Eggs are all free range

It’s the kind of attention to detail you don’t find everywhere – and it elevates even the simplest breakfast or lunch into something memorable.
And then there are the cakes. Worth the trip alone. Whether you’re stopping for a quick coffee or settling in after a long walk, the counter of freshly baked treats is impossible to resist.

A café that welcomes everyone (including dogs)
With plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, it’s an easy spot to relax in any season. Dogs on leads are welcome too, making it ideal for those countryside strolls that wouldn’t be complete without your four-legged companion.

Don’t miss the store next door
Right next door, the store adds another layer of charm. Once owned by the father of Anne Boleyn, it carries a real sense of history. Inside, you’ll find a lovely mix of sweets, the most gorgeous gifts and everyday treats – the kind of place you pop into for a quick look and leave with far more than you planned.

Make a day of it
One of the things we loved most? Turning the visit into a full countryside outing. We walked over from Penshurst, which made the whole experience feel even more rewarding.
It took us around an hour to get to Chiddingstone (unrushed and with several children and dogs in tow) and we also wandered around the gorgeous grounds of Chiddingstone Castle, so it’s well worth leaving time to do this if you can.

The My Tunbridge Wells verdict
If you know us, you’ll know we’re always on the lookout for that perfect combination: a scenic walk followed by a standout café. Chiddingstone Cafe and Store delivers both effortlessly.
Family-run and with its homemade food, high-quality local ingredients, historic setting and undeniable charm, it’s the kind of place you visit once – and then find yourself returning to again (and again).
And trust us… you’ll be thinking about those cakes long after you’ve left…
