We have a bumper weekend of festive events and Christmas fairs in Tunbridge Wells and beyond to look forward to from 25th to 27th November. Here they are….
#1 Late night Christmas shopping at Sussex Country Gardener – Friday 25th November
Sussex Country Gardener in Mark Cross is hosting a late night Christmas Shopping evening from 5.30 to 8pm with 20% off on the night and a Christmas Gift for Every Customer! Enjoy some roasted chestnuts, mulled wine & stollen and food tasting too. The lovely Café will be open as well. Book ahead for this fab event – entry is £2 per person which will be donated to Demelza Hospice.
#2 Southborough Primary School’s Christmas Fair – Friday 25th November
Southborough Primary School’s Chirstmas Fair is taking place this Friday from 5.30 to 7.30pm. Entry for adults is £1 and children go for free!
#3 Ladies Night Out in Wateringbury – Friday 25th November
Treat yourself to some pampering and browse some lovely Christmas stalls at Wateringbury Primary School this Friday evening. Taking place from 7-10pm, there will also be the chance to sample produce from a new local vineyard and take part in a charity raffle for Demelza House Hospice. Entry is just £3.
#4 Sussex Country Gardener’s arrival of Father Christmas and his Real Reindeer – Saturday 26th November
Father Christmas and his real reindeer will be making their grand arrival at Sussex Country Gardener this Saturday at 10.30am (visitors are advised to arrive at 10am). The grotto will be open all day and on Sunday 27th November as well as each Saturday and Sunday in December until Sunday 18th plus Monday 19th – Friday 23rd December.
There’ll be lots of treats available at the grand arrival including hot chocolate, bacon baps, face painting and balloons. There’s also a gorgeous cafe and a gift shop with the most delightful decorations – well worth a visit! Tickets to see Father Christmas can be booked by calling 01892 852 828. #5 Cheeki Monkeys Event – Saturday 26th November
The last Cheeki Monkeys event for 2016 is back this Saturday from 10am to 12 noon at St Gregory’s Catholic School, Reynolds Lane, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN4 9XL. Visit this Pop-up Baby & Children’s Market and have a fun family morning out. Grab some bargains and keep the little ones entertained at the same time.
If you’re stuck for something to do with the children there will be plenty to keep the little ones entertained including face painting, a soft play area with Tots Play TW, a photo studio, Usborne Books, colouring tables and a free goody bag! Entry for adults is £1 and children go for free.
#6 Bidborough School Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November
Bidborough Primary School’s Christmas Fair is taking place from 3.30 to 6pm this Saturday. Look out for the chocolate tombola, bottle tombola, BBQ and the all important bar (which includes lots of Mulled Wine). There will also be a cafe with freshly made cakes and refreshments, a craft table, games, (temporary) tattoos and nails as well as pre-loved books and toys plus craft stalls. Entry is £1 for adults and children go for free.
#7 The Tunbridge Wells Ice Rink – now until Monday 2 January 2017
The Tunbridge Wells Ice Rink is now open for the whole of Tunbridge Wells and beyond to enjoy. Set within the beautiful Calverley Grounds, the real 35 x 20 foot ice rink is a perfect Christmas outing for friends and family. Seal skating aids are available to hire for children. Pre-booking for sessions is recommended and can be done through the Royal Tunbridge Wells at Christmas website. Tickets can also be purchased at the Assembly Hall Box Office or by calling 01892 554645.
#8 St Barnabas School Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November
St Barnabas Primary School on Quarry Road, Tunbridge Wells (TN1 2EX) is hosting their Christmas Fair from 11am to 2pm this Saturday. There’ll be craft and edible gifts, games and activities, a prize raffle and bottle tombola too. The children can have a go at the kid’s tombola as well as face painting. There will be a very special visitor too, plus real Christmas trees for sale. There are also some Chelsea FC tickets being auctioned! Entry is free.
#9 Bishops Down Primary School Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November
The Bishops Down Primary School Christmas Fair is taking place this Saturday from 12 noon to 2pm. Each class will be running a stall which includes sweetie tombola, bottle tombola, biscuit decorating, tinsel pull, a grotto, secret Santa and much more. They also have two fabulous raffles for a barrel of booze (yes please!!) and to win the class themed hampers.
#10 Leigh Primary School Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November
Leigh Primary School’s Christmas Fair is taking place this Saturday from 2-4pm at Leigh Village Hall. Enjoy some Christmas games, treats for the children, raffle, tombola, human fruit machine, Christmas crafts, tea, cake and lots of mulled wine!!
#11 Rotherfield Primary School Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November
Rotherfield Primary School’s Christmas Fair is taking place this Saturday from 12-3pm.
#12 Rotherfield Vintage and Craft Market – Saturday 26th November
Check out the beautiful vintage and retro Christmas gifts including ceramics, glassware and toys at Rotherfield Vintage and Craft Market this Saturday. Taking place at Rotherfield Village Hall from 10am to 3pm, there will be handmade cards and Christmas decorations too. Why not combine it with a visit to the Rotherfield Primary School Christmas Fair?
#13 Bearstead Green Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November
The beautiful village of Bearstead is hosting their Christmas Fair on the Green this Saturday. The Mayor of Maidstone will switch on the Christmas lights and visitors can join in the singing and shop at a fantastic range of craft and gift stalls. There will be live music and singing as well as a traditional fairground organ, delicious food and drink along with mulled cider and real ale from Bearfeast. Enjoy face-painting for the kids and an opportunity for them to visit Santa’s ‘Letters to Lapland’ and post their requests to Santa!.
#14 Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar School Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November
The Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar School on St John’s Road, Tunbridge Wells (TN4 9XB) is hosting their Christmas Fair this Saturday from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
#15 Santa’s Arrival at Millbrook Garden Centre – Saturday 26th November
See Santa arrive in style at Millbrook Garden Centre in Crowborough this Saturday. Santa Claus, Mrs Claus and their elves are coming to town and Father Christmas will be arriving at his festive home for the next 4 weeks at 11am. There will be FREE fun for all the family, including face painting, balloons, a Name the Elf competition and more!
#16 Christmas Fantasia in Horsham – Opens Saturday 26th November
Bring your friends, children, family or just yourselves to enjoy a magical winter wonderland experience at Christmas Fantasia in Horsham – opening this Saturday and weekends between now and Christmas Eve as well as during the school holidays.
There’ll be lots of fun attractions all centred around the large indoor ice rink as well as traditional fairground rides. Enjoy a family friendly ride on the Ferris wheel, mini roller coaster, teacup ride, helter skelter plus much more. Wander around the Christmas market with many local crafts and delicious food items on sale. There will also be a Santa’s grotto experience from 10am to 9pm.
#17 Marlborough House School Christmas Fair – Saturday 26th November
Marlborough House School’s Christmas Fair is taking place from 11am to 2pm this Saturday. With over 40 stalls and activities including face painting, tombola and festive singing, this sounds like a fun event.
#18 Hawkhurst Bonfire Night & Fireworks – Saturday 26th November
Join the Hawkhurst Gang Bonfire Society for its 5th Anniversary on Saturday 26th November. This year’s event will be taking place at the playing field opposite The Moor in Hawkhurst, starting off with a torch lit procession leaving the top of Highgate Hill. Gates opens from 6pm and the procession starts just after 7pm. Tickets are £4.00 (adults) / £2.00 (children) if bought in advance from The Green Shop or adults can pay £4.50 / children £2.50 at the gate.
#19 Chiddingstone Castle Christmas Fair 2016 – Saturday 26 November 2016
Chiddingstone Castle’s annual Christmas Fair will take this Saturday between 11am and 4pm. Admission is £4 for adults and children 5-13 enter for £1. There will be more than 60 stalls with festive gifts in the Castle’s historic rooms and marquee. Mulled wine and mince pies will add to the seasonal cheer! The cosy Tea Rooms will be open too and the grounds of the Castle will be open for a peaceful stroll to the Victorian Orangery or around the lake.
#20 Hever Castle’s ‘Once Upon a Castle’ – Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th November
Hever Castle celebrates the history of pantomime this Christmas in ‘Once Upon A Castle’ which starts this weekend. Walk through the rooms of the Castle, adorned with beautiful decorations and welcoming log fires and learn about the evolution of pantomime. Follow the snowy Christmas trail and discover the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as you wander through the illuminated gardens as dusk falls.
Enjoy the festively decorated cafés and restaurants serving a feast of winter warmers, and be inspired by a wonderful array of seasonal gifts, luxurious decorations, toys and stocking fillers that can be found in the Hever Shop.
#21 Father Christmas at Howletts – Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th November
Father Christmas is arriving ay Howletts this Saturday – meet Santa Claus in his enchanted forest Grotto at Howletts Wild Animal Park on selected weekends throughout November and December. He will be merrily greeting families and giving away special Christmas gifts to children in his grotto from 10.30am – 4pm.
Entry to the grotto is £8 per child, including a special gift, and free admission into the grotto for adults. A valid Membership or single visit park entry ticket is also required. Souvenir photos are available for an additional charge.
#22 Kent Life’s Christmas on the Home Front – Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th November
Step back into yesteryear and re-live Christmas time in the 1940’s at Kent Life near Maidstone (ME14 3AU) this weekend with ‘Christmas on the home front’. Among the attractions will be ‘make do and mend’ lessons as well as demonstrations of war-time cookery, using genuine 1940s recipes issued by the Ministry of Food.
Other activities include drill displays by the Home Guard, a 1940s school lesson, shops from the era and a rehabilitation centre for injured RAF pilots. One of the cottages at Kent Life has been converted to recreate life in the Second World War, with sticky tape on the windows to reduce bomb blast damage, a bathtub with water ration line and a mangle to do the washing. An Anderson Shelter has been built in the garden too!
#23 Tonbridge Christmas Festival – Sunday 27th November
Organised by the Tonbridge Rotary Club, the Christmas Festival is kicking off at 1.50pm until 6.15pm this Sunday with a super schedule of events for the switching on the of the Christmas lights on the High Street! The fun starts with the TS Brilliant Reunion Band marching through the High Street and the stage, which will be set up at Castle Street Bridge will host lots of exiting performances throughout the day.
There will also be festive stalls along the street with delicious treats and gifts as the Mayor will be joined on stage at 4pm with stars from the Cinderella panto. All of this is for free – a full schedule of events can be found HERE.
#24 Ho Ho Christmas Run: Santas v Penguins – Sunday 27th November
The Hospice in the Weald’s Ho Ho Christmas Run is taking place this Sunday in Dunorlan Park from 10am to 1pm. Registration opens at 10am with the race starting at 11:00am. Lots of people have signed up for the race so far and there are now just 12 santa suits available (and no penguins!) which can be booked in advance HERE. Participants can also turn up on the day but can’t be guaranteed a costume.
#25 Paddock Wood Lights Up – Sunday 27th November
Paddock Woods Christmas tree light switch on event is returning this year from 2 to 6pm this Sunday. KMFM radio will be there with local acts and special guests, plus a guest appearance from The Assembly Hall Theatre’s Snow White and two of her Dwarfs to turn on the Christmas Tree lights! There’s be market stalls and lots of entertainment with food and drink. available too.
The Frozen Nutcracker – Sunday 18th December
Kidenza, classical concerts for kids, presents ‘The Frozen Nutcracker’ – a mash up of the festive Nutcracker Suite and music from Disney’s epic ‘Frozen’. Featuring world class musicians and West End performers, this show is suitable for all ages. Performances are in Horsham on 17 December 2016 (2pm) and Sevenoaks on 18th December at 2pm and 4pm. Come along for a festive concert, some well-known, exciting classics, a bit of a singalong and FUN.
Tickets which are £12 and are available from Kidenza. Children under 2 years go free. The show will last approx. 75 minutes. Story Sock Sessions at PUP Cafe – Tues 29th November, Tues 13th & 20th December
Story Sock has teamed up with PUP Cafe again with sessions taking place this Tuesday 29th (Getting ready for winter!), Tuesday 13th December (Getting in the festive mood!) and Tuesday 20th December (Time for a Christmas party!).
Sessions are for 2-5 year olds and cost £12.50 per child. This includes free entry to the Pup Cafe, a child’s lunch and a 30 minute Story Sock session featuring a festive tale and an art & craft activity. To book your place, email email@example.com.
Christmas Elfxtravaganza at Groombridge Place – Starts Saturday 3rd December
Groombridge Place will be open to visitors between 10am and 4pm for an exciting fun filled Christmas Elfxtravaganza on 3, 4,10 & 11 December and daily from 17 – 23 December. Enjoy a day full of festive entertainment including joining the elves on a Treasure Hunt to find Jack Frost, running through falling snow, writing letters to Santa and making reindeer food ready for Santa’s visit on Christmas Eve.
Everyone can also visit the Elves Craft Workshop and decorate gingerbread to take home. Festive stalls will be selling mulled wine, candy floss, popcorn and Christmas gifts. Online bookings will receive a 10% discount. For a small additional charge children can have their face painted. Families can also pre-book to see Father Christmas in his delightful grotto including a gift for each child.(additional £11.95 per child).
Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs at Assembly Hall Theatre – Friday 9th December to Monday 2nd January
Another spectacular family pantomime is set to take place in Tunbridge Wells for Christmas 2016! Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with sparkling sets, beautiful costumes, hilarious antics, wonderful special effects and loads of sing-along, laugh-along fun will be taking place at the Assembly Hall Theatre from Friday 9th December to Monday 2nd January.
TV & Panto legend Su Pollard stars as the Wicked Queen and Jamie Rickers, of Citv and Nickelodeon, as Muddles the Jester. A pantomime needs a dame, and this year Jamie Steen stars as over-the-top Nurse Dolly Cough-Drop.
