Helping children and parents understand and manage emotions and behaviour

Having worked in a SEN school for 5 years and being a mother to 3 boys, I wanted to focus on helping children and young people manage their emotions and challenging behaviours, enabling them to feel more confident, self assured and in control. This led me to becoming an Emotional Wellbeing Coach.
I am a fully certified Neuro Linguistic Practitioner (NLP) and member of the NLP Association of Excellence (NLPEA). I am also an Ollie Coach under the Ollie Model of Transformative Coaching. This is a strengths-based approach using a combination of positive psychology, hypnotherapy, Parts Therapy and CBT. I am qualified to help people of all ages, however, I am particularly interested in working with children and young people. I believe that every behaviour is driven by a root emotion and although many therapies work to stop the behaviour, if you work to change only that, the problem will not go away, instead it will show up in a different behaviour. Together we explore the cause of the problem and the emotions associated with it, so we can focus on the root issue.

I give children and adults the tools to be able to deal with a range of issues, including anxiety, fears, stress, low self-esteem, anger, friendship difficulties, challenging behaviour and phobias. Through simple, fun and effective techniques, emotional resilience is increased along with a stronger sense of self. The aim of the sessions is for the client to feel empowered and in control, rather than being led by their emotions.
For younger children, I use the term “superpowers” instead of emotions, helping them to understand that if they feel sad, worried or afraid, they can make that emotion smaller. Or they can replace it with other feelings e.g calm, safe or happy. They learn that they can control these “superpowers” themselves, changing them as required. By doing this, it encourages them to see these “superpowers” as parts that all play a role in making them unique and how they all have a purpose. These techniques are adapted accordingly and can be used from childhood through to adulthood.
I usually suggest starting with 6-8 sessions, however this can vary. I also offer sessions on Zoom and “Walk and Talk” sessions outside in nature if this is preferred. I’m based in Tunbridge Wells. During a free 30 minute introductory session, we can talk through any concerns and questions you might have.
