We are literally spoilt for choice when it comes to family days out around Tunbridge Wells this weekend – 12th and 13th September. Below are some of my favourites….

#1 Fordcombe Village Fete – Saturday 12th September
I have been to this fete several times and think it is a great day out for all the family. There are all sorts of things to keep the children (and adults entertained) including Punch & Judy, a toy stall, donkey rides, vintage cars, dog showing, a coconut shy and lots of lovely craft stalls.
The fete is from 1 to 4.30pm at Fordcombe Village Hall and Cricket Field. It also includes competition entries for vegetable growers, bell ringing, delicious cakes and teas, raffles and much, much more.
#2 Twins and Triplets Club Nearly New Sale – Saturday 12th September
There will be free parking and admission is jus £1 (TAMBA members can enter for free). Jo Jingles will also be there to keep the kids occupied whilst you shop at around 11am.
Home-made cakes with tea, coffee and cold drinks will also be on offer and everyone is welcome to this lovely event!
#3 Fireman Sam at Spa Valley Railway – Saturday 12th September
Children’s TV favourite Fireman Sam will be on hand to see his friends arriving on trains from Tunbridge Wells this Saturday.There should also be at least one vintage fire engine in attendance with the chance to meet the fireman and possibly play with the hoses.
The special timetable allows plenty of time for everyone to see Fireman Sam during their round trip on the line. Tickets are available to book in advance here. Standard return train fares apply – there is no additional charge to see Fireman Sam.
#4 Dragon Boat Festival 2015, Bewl Water – Saturday 12th September
The Dragon Boat Festival at Bewl Water is a unique opportunity for a fantastic family day out. Starting at 10am and finishing at around 4pm with the 12-boat grand final, visitors are invited down to the water’s edge to watch all of the colourful action.
There will also be tents and marquees with stalls selling cakes and other goodies, running competitions, and generally full to the brim with people in interesting and unusual fancy dress! There will also be a funfair, go-karts, bouncy castles, and many other activities to keep the children amused. Further information can be found here.
#5 Mind, Body and Spirit Festival, Salomons Estate – Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September
Something for the Mums. This is a fabulous two day Mind Body Spirit Festival in beautiful surrounding at the lovely Salmons Estate in Southborough. The event is taking place in the Victorian Theatre and there will be a large number of stalls including therapists, readers and retail covering many aspects relating to health, well-being and spirituality.
Visitors are invited to try the taster sessions of various therapies, have a tarot card or mediumship reading, browse all the lovely stands and take in a talk or demonstration. There will be free talks and demonstrations throughout the two days, something for everyone to enjoy refreshments will be available all weekend too.
#6 World Garden Craft Fair, Lullingstone Castle – Sunday 13th September
Lullingstone Castle and The World Garden will be holding a Plant, Craft & Wildlife Fair this Sunday from 11am – 5pm showcasing a host of local crafts including jewellery, cakes and floral delights from local growers and our very own specialist nursery.
Enjoy shopping in the historic grounds and at your leisure browse a choice of local crafts, fresh produce and plant stalls. West Kent Badger Group will also be on hand to share their conservation work with visitors. Further information can be found here.
#7 Chiddingstone Castle Country Fair – Sunday 13th September
A packed programme of exciting activities will take place throughout the day including the Dog & Runner Duck Show, displays of side-saddle riding and carriage-driving, working dogs and sniffer dogs and not forgetting the fun exemption dog show open to all!
New for this year will be the chance to have a go at Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting. There will be tractors galore, a beer tent and refreshments. There will also be some fantastic stalls and after a full day’s entertainment, everyone will be invited to enter the family giant wool sack race. Admission is £4 for adults and £1 for children aged between 5 and 13 (under 5’s free). Further information can be found here.
#8 Weald of Kent Craft & Design Show, Penshurst Place – Friday 11th to Sunday 13th September
The show will also host workshops, demonstrations and live music throughout the day and will feature Chilstone Sculpture Garden, family craft workshops, the Yarnsmith of Norwich Storyteller and much more. Tickets for adults are £8 / £7 for Seniors. For more information click here.
#9 Heritage Open Days and Medieval Fair at Tonbridge Castle
Heritage Open Days celebrate England’s architecture and culture by allowing visitors free access to interesting properties that are either not usually open, or would normally charge an entrance fee. Tunbridge Wells Heritage Open Days 2015 are on from Thursday 10th September to Sunday 13th September. Further information can be found here.
