Does anyone else think it feels like we’ve just waved the kids back to school after the Christmas holidays and another ‘break’ is upon us? If you’re struggling for ideas for things to do then look no further – here’s the February Half Term Events Guide with 50+ things to do with the kids!
As ever, please double check the details of your activity with the provider before you visit and most importantly, have fun!
♥ Take your little monkeys to their natural habitat and let them Go Ape at Bedgebury Pinetum. Explore the 128 hectare forest. Can you spot the seven large wooden Gruffalo sculptures that are hiding amongst the trees?
♥ Take in the picturesque Bewl Water reservoir with its adventure playgrounds and indoor soft play which is open seven days a week (and next to The Waterfront Cafe so you can grab a cuppa too!). Bewl Water has a wide range of exciting activities for kids including pedalos and school holiday kids’ camps.
♥ Pop along to The Hop Farm Family Park in Paddock Wood from 15th to 23rd February and choose from rides to have fun on along with the ever popular attractions that include the in-door soft play centre, Driving School, Magic Castle, Animal Farm and Giant Jumping Pillows. There are plenty of new additions to the animal farm, including Spring lambs and piglets too as well as indoor live entertainment shows and a daily timetable of shows in the Big Red Barn Theatre.
♥ Also at The Hop Farm, The 2020 tour of Circus Zyair is a dazzling combination of circus, music and laughter. With a heated big top, comfy seating and an electric atmosphere from start to finish. Circus Zyair promises to be a truly magical experience for the whole family from 14th to 23rd February at various times.
♥ Visit the charming Herstmonceux Castle Gardens & Grounds throughout half term and enjoy a selection of fun activities including Have a Go Archery, Meet the Falconer (on selected dates), Scavenger Hunt, Sir Roger’s Rummage (a brand new event), tours of the castle and more!
♥ Enjoy a family swim at The Mercure Tunbridge Wells Hotel which is offering My Tunbridge Wells readers a discounted rate for the use of their leisure centre during Half Term (14th Feb to 1st March). A family pass (2 adults + 2 children age 3-15) is £18 (saving you £6) and children age 2 and under go for free (one per adult). Alternatively two adults can go for £10. ♥ The Odeon Cinemas deal is back again on Groupon! You can purchase two cinema tickets for £10 or five for £20 – valid for standard seating until 20th March, tickets can be used for 2D films at locations across the UK including Tunbridge Wells. ♥ Learn about the origins of some of the items we use every day in the Penshurst Place amazing inventions trail! Explore the gardens and help to find the hidden items from 15th 23rd February.
♥ Try something new with Little Forest Ponies who offer unique riding experiences at their Tiny Tots Sessions (age 2.5 to 5 years) and their Pony Fun Clubs (age 5 to 12 years) in Cowden, just 20 minutes from Tunbridge Wells. ♥ Meet plenty of animals such as pigs, sheep, ponies, goats and alpacas and join in with the feeding sessions at Kent Life’s Heritage Farm Park. Join in with their February fun programme (15th – 23rd February) and step back in time and visit the Vintage Village, enjoy the indoor and outdoor play areas, have a tractor or land train rides and take the chance to get arty in the Paint-a-Pot studio.
♥ Pull on you wellies and get outside on one of the many National Trust family trails. Explore places like Emmetts Garden, Sissinghurst Castle and Ightam Mote with your little intrepid explorer.
♥ Join Chris Vine, the author of the hugely-popular ‘Peter’s Railway’ children’s books at the Kent & East Sussex Railway this half-term (on 15th and 16th February). There’ll also be four steam trains running from Tenterden to Bodiam every day during half term (Monday 17th February and Friday 21st February excepted). Throughout the week, travellers on selected trains will be able to listen to some of ‘Peter’s Railway’ stories in a specially-designated carriage. Look out for live science workshops later in the week too!
♥ For soft play with a twist take your kids to Dinotropolis located in Bluewater. Meet the huge animatronic dinosaurs, go wild in the Dino Jungle and power yourself around the Raptor Run. You can read a review of our trip HERE.
♥ Compete in Godstone Farm’s Olympics this half term (15th – 23rd February). Will your toy tractor win the race? Will your welly throw be far enough? Get all 5 rings and get onto the winners podium! With animal encounters and play areas to keep all mini Olympians busy, everyone’s a winner!
♥ Find out more about ‘living with nature’ at Hever Castle’s half term event from 15th to 23rd February. Follow the nature trail in the grounds and then create a ladybug, hedgehog or bumblebee in a free craft workshop.
♥ Discover which dinosaurs once roamed across Kent, hold real fossils millions of years old and even learn how to hunt a mammoth during Prehistoric Week at Wildwood Kent from 15th to 23rd February.
♥ The Historic Dockyard Chatham are looking for a new recruit of spies to help from 15th to 23rd February. Young spies will have to navigate the dockyard and uncover the mysterious world of spies and secret agents. Get hands on with spy craft sessions (pre-booking advised) and, the highlight of any mission, climb aboard HMS Ocelot, a real-life spy submarine. With an indoor and an outdoor trail, even the weather will not foil your mission.
♥ Discover the brand new Permian Monsters: Life Before the Dinosaurs Exhibition at the Horniman Museum this Half Term as well as a whole host of workshops!
♥ Kids go free at Howletts Wild Animal Park, Kent’s original wildlife park, for the whole of February! Howletts is a dedicated animal conservation charity meaning that your visit directly helps to protect wildlife here in the UK which, in turn, enables Howletts to send animals back to the wild in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation. ♥ Throw on your wellies and thinking caps this half term and explore the wonders of the Leeds Castle estate with their Half Term Explorers sessions. With an exciting activity booklet on-hand to help guide you through the grounds for a small additional charge, complete the various puzzles and challenges to be rewarded with a chocolate prize!
♥ As usual Lucy’s Little Forest School in Wilderness Wood are offering a variety of outdoor adventures including a mud kitchen or den building sessions on 17th February, family forest school sessions on the 18th, pizza and den building or a gruffulo adventure on the 19th and winter elf or fairy garden making on the 20th. ♥ There’s been a murder in the mansion at Scotney Castle and they need your help in solving the crime. Where did it happen? What was the weapon? Who was the culprit? Pick up your trail sheet and start looking for clues from 15th to 23rd February.
♥ Take train fans to see the Tonbridge Model Railway Exhibition which is on Saturday 15th February (10am-5pm) at the Angel Leisure Centre in Tonbridge.
♥ Explore yoga postures, breathing techniques and relaxation practices with a Family Yoga Workshop at the Children’s Centre in Paddock Wood on Saturday 15th February at 10:30am for children aged 4-7 and 11:30am for children aged 8-12.
♥ Take part in a Daisy First Aid course and learn the essential skills all child caregivers should know incase of emergency. Taking place on 15th February at The Hub in Grosvenor and Hilbert park at 10am.
♥ Learn the basics of spray art, get tips and pointers from a graffiti expert and have a go at creating your own board at Cranbrook Pop-Up Arts Workshop: Graffiti Art on Saturday 15th February, 1pm – 3pm.
♥ There’s a whole host of awesome holiday workshops by Freckles on The Inside this February Half Term. Including a mini makers morning creating some serious garland magic! See the calendar HERE for more details.
♥ Get your family together for an afternoon with a professional artist and access to creative materials and studio space at Arty Farty Retreat‘s crafternoon, on Saturday 15th February 3pm-5pm.
♥ Always wanted to have a go at playing an instrument and never had the opportunity? Pop into Brittens Music store in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday 15th February. It’s all free, no appointment necessary, and all ages are welcome!
♥ Design & create a block print and print it onto either a t-shirt, drawstring bag or pillowcase using professional fabric paints at an Art Block Creating Workshop at the Hub in Bodiam on the 15th February, 10-12.
♥ To celebrate Hospice in the Weald’s 40th anniversary, they are launching a Heart to Heart appeal. Members of the local community are invited to come to the Hospice in Pembury and attend a clay heart making sessions on Sunday 16th February from 11am to 1pm – a great opportunity for friends and family to spend time together whilst supporting the Hospice. ♥ Watch the much loved ballet, Sleeping Beauty, at Trinity Theatre on Sunday 16th of February, suitable for the whole family, especially 2-13 year olds.
♥ ‘Kids go for a Quid’ at the Spa Valley Railway on 15th, 16th, 20th, 22nd and 23rd of February.
♥ Go Wild this Winter at Millbrook Minis Wild Week at Millbrook Garden Centre in Crowborough. On Monday 17th learn all about Monster Plants, on the 18th meet and greet with a selection of rescued animals, on the 19th get creative with hedgehog themed craft workshops, on the 20th meet and greet sky birds of prey and on the 21st decorate a mug and make a home for the creatures in your garden! Booking essential!
♥ Make slime on 17th or make pom pom birds and frogs on the 18th at the Sussex Country Gardener this half term. Alternatively book tickets to decorate some cupcakes during half term too. Booking is essential for all the aforementioned activities via the website here.
♥ Have you been to the Tulip Tearooms in Chiddingstone? They are hosting storytelling sessions during half term from 17th to 21st February. The cost is £3 including juice and a cookie. Check out the Facebook page for exact timings.
♥ From Monday 17th to Thursday 20th February, families are invited to enjoy Story Time with The Very Hungry Caterpillar at Bluewater. Taking place every day 10am-5.30pm, this classic children’s book will be beautifully told in a 20 minute interactive show, children will take part in a craft activity and get to meet the caterpillar himself. The whole event is £3 per person – places are limited, so guests should head to the event Box Office outside M&S (lower level) on the day to reserve a place.
♥ Send your young witches and wizards for a magical schooling they’ll never forget! They’ll learn about sea witches, moon magic and more at Arty Farty Retreat‘s Witch School, taking place from 17th-19th February, 10am-4pm.
♥ Pop into Hobbycraft Tunbridge Wells for Kids’ Craft Club Slime Making from17th to 23rd February. Kids can lern how to make their very own textured slime! Suitable for ages 4+, the workshops are FREE but do need to be pre-booked HERE.
♥ Further afield, Whitstable Castle gardens are holding a fairy trail again this year – from Monday 17th to Friday 21st February go on a fairy scavenger hunt!
♥ Inspired by NASA and Star Wars™ try out the Space Wars Adventure Camp. It is packed full of models that will make your imagination blast off! Each day, kids will learn about real-life space exploration and build models related to the NASA space program. On 17th February, 9.30 – 12.30, at Kings Hill Community Centre.
♥ Explore animation using a variety of materials and learn how to design and create your own characters from plasticine, how to position the camera, and bring tale to life with a skilled facilitator at Trinity Youth Theatre’s Stop Motion Workshop. Taking place on Monday 17th, 10am – 2pm at Trinity Theatre.
♥ Children aged 5+ with a sweet tooth can take place in one of Temper Temper’s chocolate making workshops on either 17th (10am or 1pm), 19th (10am) or 21st (1pm) of February.
♥ Have some fun with chemistry at The Observatory Science Centre‘s workshops. On Tuesday 18th February 6-8 year olds can learn about chemistry in a half day workshop. On the 19th there is a Discover Chemistry workshop for 9-11 year olds and on 20th February there is a ‘Explore the Moon’ twilight workshop for 9-11 year olds.
♥ Join Creatables this February Half Term for an ‘Enchanted Forest’ workshop. Along the adventure will be the unique Creatables mix of fun team drama games, exciting interactive storytelling and creative crafts, with an entertaining show at the end. Taking place on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th February, find out more HERE.
♥ There’ll be a special visit from Paw Patrol’s Chase and Marshall on Wednesday 19th February at The Hop Farm Family Park in Paddock Wood! Get your cameras ready and enjoy all of the attractions at this family farm including indoor live entertainment, plenty of rides and the ever popular attractions such as the in-door soft play centre, Driving School, Magic Castle, Animal Farm and Giant Jumping Pillows.
♥ Me hearties! Pop along to Southborough Library for a Pirate Themed Fun Day from 10am to 12 noon on Wednesday 19th February! All welcome to this free event with lots of fun activities for the kids.
♥ Little princesses and princes will love Once Upon a Wish Events’ Royal Tea Party – a two hour immersive dining experience starting with high tea with your favourite princess friends on Wednesday 19th February (11.30am – 1.30pm or 2.15pm – 4.15pm) at The Spa Hotel.
♥ Enjoy Story Time with Peppa and George at Royal Victoria Place on Wednesday 19th February. Cheeky Peppa Pig and her little brother George will be keeping the little ones entertained with some interactive storytelling sessions. Story Time sessions at 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
♥ Venture slightly further afield and catch a theatre performance of my favourite Julia Donaldson book, Zog at The Brighton Dome Concert Hall from 19th to 21st February.
♥ Make your own wind chime at Knole Park‘s Windchime Making Workshop on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th February at 10.30am.
♥ Put your skates on and take part in organised roller games and activities with Roller Fun at the Angel Centre in Tonbridge on Thursday 20th February from 11.30pm – 1.30pm.
♥ Keep your kids busy during half term by signing them up to a nature photography workshop at Scotney Castle on Thursday 20th from 10.30am – 1pm for 7-11 year olds and then from 2pm – 4.30pm for 12-15 year olds.
♥ Calling all High School Musical fans – Trinity Youth Theatre will be performing High School Musical 2 On Stage on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd February. Book tickets here.
♥ Enter the lair of fantastic fables and make legends come to life at Slime Lab UK’s Mythical Slime Making Workshop on Friday 21st February, 10am-11.30am at St Philips Church.
♥ Are your little ones mad about Minions? Then bring them along to Royal Victoria Place for some half-term fun on Friday 21st February. They will get the chance to meet mischievous Minions Kevin and Bob and enjoy lots of fun. Meet & Greet sessions at 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
