Tonbridge has become one of the first locations for an exciting new range of art classes – Future Creatives! These courses are run by University of the Arts London (UAL), ranked 2nd in the world for Art and Design (QS World University Rankings).

Classes kicked off in Tonbridge with a five-day course at Hillview School for Girls over October half term. After school and Saturday classes are now taking bookings and will be starting in early November.

♥  What is Future Creatives?

UAL Future Creatives provides inspiring art and design courses for young creatives aged 7 to 17, taught by qualified teachers specially selected by UAL for their professional industry experience and expertise.

The courses are suitable for anybody aged 7-17 who enjoys getting creative. Split into two age groups, 7-11 and 11-17, students are given the opportunity to explore a range of disciplines. From prop design and wire sculpture to lino printing and zine making, Future Creatives students are supported to create an impressive portfolio of work whilst expressing themselves through a variety of artistic practices.

Toby Wynyard, Business Manager for Children and Young People at UAL, says: “Future Creatives will offer a chance for students to experiment, develop their skills, build confidence, make friends and see a future with art and design.”

♥  Why has UAL launched this programme?

Future Creatives was developed thanks to UAL’s belief in the importance of providing creative opportunities for all. And we are all aware that there is a clear need to fill the gap in creative education for children and teenagers.

A recent report from the Durham Commission on Creativity and Education stated that the introduction of the English Baccalaureate has resulted in a “serious imbalance in the all-round education of students”, whilst a BBC survey found that 90% of schools surveyed have cut back on lesson time, staff or facilities in at least one creative arts subject.

So what better institution to provide this high-quality arts education than UAL, ranked second in the world for Art and Design by QS World University Rankings?
