How To Make A Guest Bedroom Look Expensive

Making your guest bedroom look expensive is the best way to ensure an optimal guest experience, and it’s cheaper than you think.

A dreary guest bedroom with no storage and an uncomfortable bed is a recipe for bad memories and a hesitancy to stay over again.

Your guest bedroom plays a more significant role in your guest’s experience than your cooking, entertainment, and everything else.

The good news is that you can spruce up your space for less than £500 and, in some cases, less than £100.

We provide more colour below.

Make your bed the main attraction

Your guest bedroom’s centrepiece should be a bed that commands attention.

A winged headboard covered in plush velvet or linen with deep button tufting oozes vintage-inspired glamour, cocooning visitors in cosy sophistication.

Or choose the timeless grace of a sleigh bed—its curved silhouette complements both traditional and contemporary decor.

Mattress bliss

When guests first enter your bedroom, sitting on the bed will be one of the first things they do (or collapsing on it, depending on the journey).

Make sure it makes a lasting impression by buying a super-comfortable mattress that isn’t too firm or soft. A medium mattress is perfect, or you can choose a medium-firm one that suits back sleepers and heavier people more.

Pocket spring mattresses are always a safe bet. A few options:

Layer your bed

Once you’ve selected the perfect bed frame and mattress, it’s time to style it with layers of pillows and cushions.

Mix and match an array of fluffy pillows – two super-fluffy jobs propped against the headboard, a couple of standard pillows in front, and perhaps a lumbar or decorative cushion.

A cohesive colour palette of crisp whites or subtle hues works well for layers, although a touch of colour—pops of red, orange, and yellow—works a treat to make things interesting.

Bedside convenience

Treat your nightstands (bedside tables) as miniature stages to arrange a captivating configuration that’s stylish and practical.

A sleek table lamp for late-night reading and an elegant alarm clock, potted plant, or fresh blooms create a fantastic arrangement.

Floating shelves or wall-mounted bedside tables are an alternative solution if drawers are built into your bed and need clearance.

Comfortable lighting

Harsh overhead lighting has no place in a luxurious guest retreat.

Instead, choose softer, more flattering ambient illumination, with matching lamps and ambient lighting that cast a warm, symmetrical glow.

A dramatic chandelier or pendant light can serve as a focal point, although nowadays, plenty of people prefer colour-changeable spotlights.

Metallic décor

Gold, brass, silver, and nickel décor can take your guest bedroom from a pauper’s place to a dreamy escape. Here are a few areas to look at:

  • Light switches and sockets
  • Light fixtures
  • Furniture knobs
  • Curtain poles
  • Art and picture frames

Accidental red (or orange)

The best interior spaces use pops of bright colour for character, and there’s no better place than your guest bedroom to offer something different.

Red and orange are the best colours because they stand out – cushions, artwork, wall clocks, and even a washing basket can serve the cause.

Window dressings

Curtains, blinds, or shades can help transform the look of your guest bedroom.

Choose window treatments that fit your style and block out maximum light if necessary—the best products are made to measure.

Popular options include:

  • Thermal and blackout curtains
  • Roller blinds
  • Venetian blinds
  • Perfect-fit blinds (clip-on blinds for UPVC frames)

We’re partial to roller blinds with blackout material, and there’s no reason you can’t pair them with gorgeous curtains to give your guest bedroom the wow factor.
