How To Inspire Children To Enter STEM Industries

Collaborative Post

There are many reasons for children to enter STEM industries. There are many different industries for STEM interested children to choose from – one being medicine.

There are companies such as Phacilitate out there who connect industry leaders in advanced therapies such as looking into non viral vectors and enables them to meet through inspiring conferences, networks and insights. These inspirational conferences help to bring together people to help advance to the next pillar of medicine.

But how else can we expect advances in industries such as medicine? By encouraging our children to enter these very STEM industries and make a change in the word.

Encourage Their Learning

As well as encouraging them outside of school, you should also be encouraging them to learn within school – participating to the best of their ability in their science based lessons, doing experiments and even exploring science or technological toys available to them. Some schools have some wonderful robotics and coding toys or sets that children can get to know and find out more from. LEGO and Meccano are great for encouraging engineering skills, for example – and many schools or childcare facilities have these types of toys available to their students.

There should also be encouragement to learn more about role models within the industries. People such as Edison, Da Vinci, Ada Lovelace and Margaret Hamilton are all important role models that children interested in STEM should know about.

Visit Subject Specific Camps

You would be surprised at the many different camps that there are available to children who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These may be half a day or a day long camp – some may even be over the space of a weekend or a week. However if your child is showing a true interest in these subjects, a trip to one of these camps is bound to either further their interest or make them realise that it is actually not for them.

Participate Yourself

Even if you don’t have an interest yourself, don’t show this to your child. Take part in activities with them, show an interest and encourage their curiosity. If your child thinks that you think something is boring, they may not want to continue, despite finding it interesting themselves.

Get Outdoors

Many people are fooled into thinking that STEM subjects are studied in labs or at desks. But this isn’t always the case. There is so much to see and do outside that can help engage us. The wonders of natural science and engineering will never cease to be amazing!

These are just a few ways that we can inspire children to enter the different STEM industries available to us. It is great to see that more and more children are becoming interested in their industries and are doing all that they can to get the skills and qualifications needed to enter these fields.

It is important that we encourage them to follow their dreams and help them achieve them to the best of their ability.
