For many families in Tunbridge Wells, maths can be a real source of worry – which is why the arrival of Mathnasium last year has been such a welcome addition to the town. As the centre marks its first anniversary this Saturday, here’s why so many local families continue to choose it.
A Remarkable First Year in Tunbridge Wells
Since opening in January 2025, Mathnasium has quietly been making a real difference to local families, helping children (ages 6 to 16 approx) feel more confident with maths, fill gaps in understanding and, in many cases, completely change how they feel about the subject. In just 12 months, the centre has welcomed over 100 students, earned a national Rising Star Award, and built a strong reputation as a calm, supportive and effective place for children to learn.

One-Year Anniversary Celebration – This Weekend
That milestone is being marked this weekend with a one-year anniversary celebration, offering a lovely opportunity for families to step inside and see what Mathnasium is all about.
On Saturday 10 January, the centre will be hosting a drop-in celebration from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, with games, fun activities and tasty treats planned, plus a visit from the Mayor to help mark the occasion. Families are warmly invited to drop in – whether your child already attends or you’re simply curious to learn more.
Visiting Mathnasium as a Parent
I visited Mathnasium myself during the Christmas holidays, taking along my Year 2 child and my Year 6 child for a free assessment, and I found the experience really insightful. It was fascinating to see where each of them currently is with their maths, where there may be gaps or room for improvement, and how support can be tailored so differently depending on age and ability. The assessment felt relaxed but thorough, and gave a far clearer picture than a simple test ever could.

A Calm, Confident Learning Environment
While we were there, what really stood out was the atmosphere and the level of independence the children showed. Several students arrived for their sessions during our visit – parents dropped them off, the children signed themselves in, collected their folders and got straight to work. The Mathnasium team were always on hand to help when someone got stuck, check progress and celebrate achievements, but the children clearly felt confident and comfortable working independently in the space.
Making Maths Motivating and Engaging
There’s also a strong motivational element woven into the sessions. My daughter watched on with envy as a child around her age earned the chance to spin the reward wheel, collecting points towards a prize. Alongside this, there are plenty of hands-on resources, such as counters and physical maths tools, which help keep children engaged and add a fun, interactive element without distracting from the learning itself.

Book a Free Assessment Today
The start of a new term is often when maths concerns become more noticeable – whether confidence has dipped, small gaps are starting to show, or upcoming exams are beginning to feel more real. Mathnasium’s personalised, one-to-one approach offers a supportive way to understand where your child is now and how they can be helped to move forward with confidence.
Booking a free assessment at Mathnasium of Tunbridge Wells will give you a clear insight into your child’s strengths, highlights any areas for improvement, and shows how a tailored programme could support them this term. The one-year anniversary celebration this Saturday is also a lovely opportunity to drop in, meet the team and say hello while celebrating a year of Mathnasium supporting Tunbridge Wells children.
