Looking for places to take the family around Tunbridge Wells this weekend?
Despite the recent Boris announcement there are still plenty of ways to get out and about for some fun with family and friends if you remember the rule of 6. Here are some suggestions for doing just that in and around Tunbridge Wells as well as further afield this weekend. Enjoy!
♥ Enjoy Family Apple Picking at Castle Farm in Shoreham (near Sevenoaks) this Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm (weather permitting). The apple trees are ideal for kids to come and pick from because they are low to the ground. Read more about apple picking etiquette! They have a dedicated car park next to the orchard, and it’s free to enter the orchard – just pay for what you pick. Norfolk Royal Apples PYO are £2.40/kilo.
♥ For a thrilling and nostalgic day out, celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain at Headcorn Airfield’s Air Show this weekend. Enjoy spectacular flying displays featuring aircraft from the era and get up closer than ever before to large aircraft on the ground. There are still some Friday general admission tickets available or for an extra special treat on Sunday, book a table in the Spitfire enclosure for a roast lunch next to one of these spectacular aircraft.
♥ Have you ever considered performing arts classes for your child? There is still time to enrol on the Stagecoach autumn term on Saturdays at Holmewood House School for Early Stages (4-6 years) and Main Stages (6-18 years). With 2-week trials available, this is a great opportunity for them to try out singing, dancing and acting; learning ideal skills for the budding performer but also for life!
♥ As autumn draws in it’s a lovely time of the year to take a walk in the changing countryside. We are lucky to have two local RSPB reserves, Broadwater Warren on the outskirts of the town and Tudely Woods, just off the A21 between Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge. Both have free parking and marked circular routes to enjoy. There are lots of fungi to look out for at the moment apparently. Plus, we’ve been really lucky and caught a glimpse of deer and even wild ponies at Broadwater Warren.
♥ While the weather is still good enough to spend the day outside, why not head over to Blackberry Farm Park for a fun-filled family day out!? Feed the friendly farm animals in the new enclosures, take a tractor ride around the farm, brave the barrel-bug ride and let off steam in the large outdoor playgrounds with giant inflatable pillows, trampolines, go-karts, assault course and much more! There’s nothing extra to pay once you’re inside, unless you visit the gift/tuck shop, and there are plenty of tables for your own picnic. Numbers are currently limited so it’s advisable to pre-book at weekends and there are hand-washing facilities/sanitiser.
♥ Introduce your little ones to the world of ponies at the Little Forest Ponies fortnightly Pony Club Fun launching on Saturday 26th September. Perfect for pony-mad 5-12-year olds, they’ll spend all day with horses, learning to ride in dressage, jumping, cross country and mounted games competitions, whilst picking up stable management skills and earning certificates for each module completed. All abilities welcome, drop-in sessions available. Pre-booking essential.
♥ Highgate Florist & Flowers, near Rotherfield, will be open this weekend for flower picking between 10am – 4pm where we are told the dahlias are looking particularly fab at the moment! Small buckets are £10, large £20 and don’t forget your snippers! There’s also a shop filled with gifts, indoor plants and homegrown veg & flowers, plus cake and coffee – what’s not to love!?
