The New Beacon Open Day_October 2019

♥    The New Beacon Open Day – Friday 9th October

The New Beacon is a place of energy and success, for individual boys and for the entire school community. We know what makes boys tick – from the sensitive to the ebullient – and I have no doubt they achieve more here than in any school I have led.  A clear mission, high expectations and excellent teaching lead to achievement: they can all be found in this Prep School. Our recent school inspection stated, “The School is highly accomplished in meeting its aim to ensure that the pupils leave as problem solvers, who can take responsibility for their work, and their lives”. Mike Piercy, Headmaster.

In the classroom, on the sports field, in the music room, the art, design and technology departments, or even in the way members of the school community support each other, New Beacon boys strive for personal excellence.

The School provides a broad, balanced, intellectual, creative and spiritual education with academic achievement at its heart. Our boys are challenged and encouraged, with equal opportunity for all. It is our aim that boys achieve their best through high expectation, excellent teaching and nurtured confidence. The school inspectors said, “the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent”.

All who work at The New Beacon strive for the highest possible standards in every aspect of the school community and education for the boys. Teachers are specialists in their field, highly professional, dedicated and ambitious for their charges. We believe each boy is an individual and our pastoral care is tailored to help him achieve his best. Respect underpins every strand of school life: respect for the school, its values and traditions; respect for each other – adult and pupil alike; respect for self.

Respect for ‘difference’, regardless of background, culture, belief, opinion, ability or character. We believe in ‘acceptance’ rather than ‘tolerance’. We wish to engender in boys the value of ‘community’, family, school, local and global, through which they have a growing understanding of the world and their place in it.

We ask each boy to strive for personal excellence, aiming to be the best he can be, making the most of every opportunity and possibility. We aim to develop initiative and responsible independence; realistic and respectful ambition.

Many people who meet Beacon Boys remark on the qualities which we endorse: good manners and courtesy; sporting etiquette; confidence (but not arrogance); intellectual curiosity, creativity and innovation.

Do contact us to book a place at one of our Open Days which will give you the opportunity to meet the staff, see the school and be hosted by the boys! Come and find out what makes The New Beacon such a wonderful place for boys on Friday 9th October from 9am to 12 noon. You will also be able to ask any questions that you may have regarding your son’s education.

We are also excited to show you our beautiful new nursery which opened last September. This is for girls and boys rising three years old.

Holmewood House Opening Morning March

♥ Holmewood House Autumn Term ‘Open Week’ – Monday 12th to Friday 16th October

Holmewood House is a co-educational, non-selective school for boys and girls aged 3-13 years, situated in 30 acres of glorious grounds in Tunbridge Wells. Holmewood provides a broad, well-balanced curriculum with outstanding teachers in what is very much a family school, where the positive relationships between the teachers and pupils allows staff to get to know and understand the individual needs of each and every child. They foster their talents and nurture their growth through a broad, balanced, challenging and exciting curriculum.

The school wholeheartedly believes that emotional and social well-being, self-esteem, happiness and confidence are of prime importance and are in themselves inextricably linked to academic progress. Staff are excited by the curiosity and thirst for learning that each child, regardless of their ability, naturally displays. They work hard to allow each child to ask why, to query and to have the time to develop their thoughts into fresh discoveries and innovations and, in doing so, overcome the challenges faced. The end result is the celebration of learning – a reward in its own right!

The wonderful environment and outstanding facilities provide a strong framework upon which the ethos of ‘allowing children to be children’ can be achieved. Childhood is full of exciting new experiences which, parents and teachers relive, through the eyes and laughter of the children.

The relationship between home and school is of fundamental importance in ensuring every child is surrounded by the love, care and guidance which they require as they make their way through their educational journey. In short, the partnership allows the children to enjoy the most important journey of all; childhood.

As our Open Mornings often plays host to a large number of families, we are currently unable to host these events due to COVID-19 restrictions.  In place of this we are delighted to announce the dates for our Autumn Term ‘Open Week’ for the week commencing 12th October 2020.

During your visit with us, you will receive a bespoke 1:1 socially distanced tour of our exceptional facilities as well as being offered the opportunity to meet with the Headmaster and other members of staff.

Due to restrictions, only pre-registered visitors are permitted to attend and the number of tours available each day is limited. We would kindly ask that families declare themselves well prior to their visit with us and that face coverings are used. Reserve your place at the Open Week HERE.
