SEA LIFE sites across the UK and Ireland are recruiting a pirate or mermaid apprentice to go behind the scenes and learn all about how they care for the array of fascinating creatures that live there. This is a last call for entries, with the deadline of 12.00 on Sunday 21st July fast approaching! As well as getting the opportunity to join the team and enjoy a behind the scenes tour as the SEA LIFE resident junior apprentice, the trainee junior pirate or mermaid will also win a National SEA LIFE pass for them and their family.
Along the way, the new recruit will have the chance to learn more about SEA LIFE’s captivating creatures and witness how they are cared for in the aquarium.
Once the behind the scenes tour is complete, the lucky buccaneer will get to encounter the legendary SEA LIFE pirates and mermaids themselves and enjoy a private meet and greet with Princess Mirlandra or Captain Timbers.

To be in with a chance of getting the job, adventurers must be aged between seven and 12 and have a keen interest in all things aquatic.
They must conjure up an exciting short story, 500 words maximum, detailing the adventures of the resident SEA LIFE pirate, Captain Timbers, or mermaid, Princess Mirlandra. Stories must be emailed to piratesandmermaids@sealife.
The winner will be announced on social media on Monday 29th July by Captain Timbers and Princess Mirlandra themselves. Shiver me timbers! What are you waiting for?
About Pirates and Mermaids
Visit your local SEA LIFE centre this summer and choose your side – Pirates or Mermaids. Running from the 25th May to the 8th September at various locations, this immersive trail features two themed routes and is perfect for the whole family to enjoy as a free addition to the SEA LIFE experience. In-tank mer-creature performances take place on select days, so please check before attending if you wish to see ‘real life mermaids’ swimming amongst the sea life.
Entry starts from £9.95 with prices varying at centres around the UK and Ireland.
All children taking part are able to select either or both trails and will be presented with a free prize as a reward for their search (subject to availability).
