We are literally spoilt for choice this weekend with 30 Tunbridge Wells Christmas events including some wonderful school Christmas Fairs, Christmas Markets and much more! I was hoping to put the events into some kind of logical order but have run out of time – so if you are looking for Christmas events to take the kids along to in Tunbridge Wells and beyond this weekend, please do have a look at all of the exciting events mentioned in this post….Have fun
#1 Christmas Elfxtravaganza at Groombridge Place – Starts Saturday 3rd December
Groombridge Place is open to visitors this weekend, next weekend and then daily from 17 – 23 December for an exciting fun filled Christmas Elfxtravaganza. Enjoy a day full of festive entertainment including joining the elves on a Treasure Hunt to find Jack Frost, running through falling snow, writing letters to Santa and making reindeer food ready for Santa’s visit on Christmas Eve.
Visitors can also go along to the Elves Craft Workshop and decorate gingerbread to take home. Festive stalls will be selling mulled wine, candy floss, popcorn and Christmas gifts. For a small additional charge children can have their face painted too. Families can also pre-book to see Father Christmas in his delightful grotto including a gift for each child.
#2 Santa’s Grotto / Breakfast with Father Christmas at Sussex Country Gardener – 3rd & 4th December
Visit Santa in his gorgeous grotto at Sussex Country Gardener in Mark Cross (TN6 3PJ ) every Saturday & Sunday in December until Sunday 18th, plus daily from Monday 19th – Friday 23rd December. Entry is £8 per child or two can enter for £14. Visitors get a lovely gift and a family photo included in this and the grotto is a truly magical experience with a trail including twinkly lights, polar bears, elves and more!
I can highly recommend this and am popping along there this Saturday. There are also Breakfast with Santa sessions available with some availability for this weekend and a few spaces left on 17th December from 9.30am – 10.30am for £7.95 per child. #3 Penshurst Christmas Market – Friday 2nd & Saturday 3rd December
The annual Penshurst Christmas Market returns again this Friday from 12-9pm and Saturday from 9am-3pm at Penshurst Village Hall. This is a wonderful festive event which provides visitors with a unique and magical Christmas Market experience in the heart of the beautiful village of Penshurst.
Enjoy a wide variety of stalls ideal for Christmas shopping, performances from local choirs and other entertainers, mulled wine, sausages, sweet treats and a charity raffle. This year the organisers are hoping to make the Penshurst Christmas Market another hugely successful event raising money for the Pickering Cancer drop in Centre and Penshurst Church. Entry and parking are free for this lovely event.
#4 Pop-up Shop & Christmas Trees at Molly Dishwasher
Molly Dishwasher’s pop-up shop at Manor Farm Stud in Bells Yew Green (TN3 9BH) is open every Friday, Saturday and Monday from 9am to 6pm and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm right up to Christmas.
There’s a super selection of handpicked presents, alongside Christmas wreaths and floral decorations. Plus you can choose your ‘non-drop’ Nordman Fir Christmas Tree and have it delivered for free to your door (within a five mile radius).
#5 The Pantiles Christmas Market – Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December
The Pantiles Christmas Market is back again this year with a Christmas Carol Service from St Paul’s Choir for The Tree of Hope on Saturday (from 11.30am to 1.30pm) and festive music from Second Wind Concert Band on Sunday (11am to 1pm) on the Bandstand. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of a festive market featuring a wide variety of local produce, tasty treats, designer clothes and artisan crafts. Discover something new each time you go with a host of seasonal themes, guest traders and ever changing ranges from the regular stalls. As well as this weekend, the Christmas Market will be taking place on 17th and 18th December.
#6 diddi dance Christmas Party – Saturday 3rd December
diddi dance is hosting a Christmas Party this Saturday for the under 6’s. This two hour extravaganza starts at 2pm at Langton Green Village Hall with an hour’s diddi dance party entertainment followed by a yummy tea party. There will also be a visit from Father Christmas with a present for each child, along with several fun festive activities. Tickets are £11 each or £18 for 2 siblings. Children under 18 months (non diddis) & adults go for free when purchasing a child ticket. Everyone is welcome, whether they have been to diddi dance before or not! #7 Langton Primary School Christmas Fair – Sunday 4th December
With a majority of Fairs taking place this weekend on Saturday, this could be a great option for families looking for something to do on Sunday. Taking place at Langton Green Primary from 12 to 4pm, enjoy some hot turkey and ham rolls with stuffing and cranberry sauce (yum!), brie and cranberry sauce rolls, mince pies, cakes and biscuits.
There’ll be Christmas spiced waffles too as well as prosecco, local Draft Ale, soft drinks, tea and coffee. The fair will be full of Christmas crafts, artwork, children’s and adult’s fashion, beauty products and accessories too. The children are bound to enjoy the secret santa room, lucky bag tombola, teddy tombola, games, cinema room, photo booth, face painting and toy shop. Look out for the christmas hamper raffle, bottle tombola, Christmas bazaar raffle, and christmas hamper raffle too.
#8 Kent College Pembury’s Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December
This year’s Christmas Fair at Kent College Pembury will be held this Saturday from 10.50am until 2pm. The theme is a ‘Very Fairy Christmas’! Visit Santa and Mother Christmas in the Fairy Mountain Grotto and swing by the Christmas Market in the Prep Hall with over 20 stalls including ‘Temper, Temper’ the chocolate makers.
Maybe the children would like to take part in Fairy Arts & Crafts and make a fairy wish, go to girl heaven and have a make-over, or play fairy games? This year there will be real ales and a ‘Fairy Café’ with hot food and for the first time ever there will be a full size ‘Elfie Booth’.
#9 St. George’s Christmas Fair – Friday 2nd December
St George’s Community Children’s Project on Chilston Road, Tunbridge Wells (TN4 9LP) is hosting an afternoon of festive fun from 3 to 6.30pm this Friday. Father Christmas and his elves will be making an appearance and there will be a tombola, cake stalls, face painting and milled wine.
If you are feeling peckish, ther will be mince pies and turkey sandwiches too. Look out for Christmas bags, a toy and books stall, cards stall, hand-knitted favours stall and entertainment for the little ones!
#10 Flash Sale with The Children’s Book Outlet – Saturday 3rd December
The Children’s Book Outlet is back in Tunbridge Wells this Saturday from 10am to 4pm as part of the Small Business Saturday event at Ely Court (ore details below)! The flash sale promises to have high quality children’s books at a price affordable to everybody – with each book costing just £1.99.
There will be a broad range of timeless classics by renowned authors from a wide spectrum of National Curriculum books that cover Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and 11+. Favourites include The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, Granny by Anthony Horowitz and The Slightly Annoying Elephant by David Walliams.
#11 St John’s Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December
St John’s Primary School on Cunningham Road in Tunbridge Wells is hosting their Christmas Fair from 1 to 4pm this Saturday. Look out for candyland, cakes, a BBQ, Elf Yourself and mini games. Plus enjoy some festive fizz, crafts, ales, skills arcade and tombolas. There will be plenty of prizes and music, too as well as a Pokemon Hunt, Secret Santa and more. Children enter for free and entry for adults is £1.
#12 St Stephen’s Primary School Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December
St Stephen’s Primary School in Tonbridge is hosting their Christmas Fair this Saturday from 11am to 1pm. There’ll be lots of stalls, a disco dome, fun activities for the kids and AMAZING raffle prizes including a £100 Cau voucher, Jumpin tickets, a family ticket to Trinity Theatre, Saltwater voucher, Cook voucher, free haircut at The Nuts and loads more!! The much loved Mochafella will be there as well along with a burger company. It’s FREE ENTRY too!
#13 Pembury Primary School Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December
Pembury Primary School on Lower Green Road is hosting their Christmas Fair this Satuday from 11am to 2pm. Admissions is FREE and there promises to be fun games and activities, mulled wine and refreshments, craft and gift stalls, carols as well as festive music, a raffle and much more.
#14 Frant Primary School Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December
Frant Primary School’s Christmas Fair is taking place from 10am until 12 noon this Saturday in the main school hall. The festivities include a fantastic raffle tombola, refreshments (supplied by Frant Nursery), lots of local craft stalls, Santa’s Grotto plus fun and games. Everyone welcome!
#15 Christmas Market at Wilderness Wood – Saturday 3rd December
The Christmas festivities are back at Wilderness Wood with Lucy’s Little Forest School offering forest school activities, Christmas crafts, decorations and bushcraft gifts as well as hots chocolates, sweet chestnuts and spiced apples over the fire.
Throughout December, the charming cafe with be offering festive treats and during the Christmas Market weekends (3, 4, 10 & 11 December) the BBQ will be running and there will be a roaring fire in the café. Check out their enormous (and very tasty) slices of cake. The market is a great opportunity to buy presents from local artisans and have a go yourselves – felting, knitting, spinning and much more. A wide range of different types of local Christmas trees will be available in the yard near the cafe too. Remember to bring some cash on the day!
#16 Lamberhurst Christmas Craft Fair – Saturday 3rd December
Lamberhurst Christmas Craft Fair is taking place this Saturday from 11am to 2pm. There promises to be gorgeous gifts, decorations, homeware, cards, wrapping and food. Taking place at Lamberhurst Village Hall, entry is free and there will be a cafe plus kids corner too.
#17 St George’s Childcare’s Christmas Quiz – Saturday 3rd December
St George’s will be hosting their first ever Big Christmas Quiz Night on Saturday 3rd December and all are welcome to join them! Entry is £10 per person on the night which includes the quiz, complementary food and an evening of great fun as well as a ‘Bake off’ competition! All money raised will go to support St George’s Childcare so they can continue to improve their facilities and provide outstanding care for the children! #18 A ride on the Santa Express – Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December
The Santa Express and Markerstudy is bringing more festive fun to Tunbridge Wells with their Christmas land train running from 10am to 4pm this Saturday and Sunday. It will also be welcoming passengers on 10th and 11th December and daily from 17th December to Christmas Eve inclusive too. The train starts from The Pantiles with drop-off at The Assembly Hall and is free to go on, with donations requested for local charity, the Pickering Cancer Drop-in Centre.
#19 The Tunbridge Wells Ice Rink – now until Monday 2 January 2017
Set within the beautiful Calverley Grounds, the The Tunbridge Wells Ice Rink makes a perfect Christmas outing for friends and family. Seal skating aids are available to hire for children. Pre-booking for sessions is recommended and can be done through the Royal Tunbridge Wells at Christmas website. Tickets can also be purchased at the Assembly Hall Box Office or by calling 01892 554645.
Children can also visit Father Christmas at the Ice Rink – Saturday is sold out but there is some availability on Sunday which can be pre-booked HERE.
#20 Small Business Saturday at Ely Court – Saturday 3rd December
As part of Small Business Saturday on 3rd December, Royal Tunbridge Wells Together has offered free access to retail units in Ely Court for the day at Royal Victoria Place. This is the perfect chance for small independents to showcase their products from 10am to 4pm and for shoppers to discover some fantastic gifts from a talented bunch, while supporting local!
Businesses participating (many of which are run by local Mums) include Vintage Amy, Clarence and Alabama, The Beyond Travel Company and The Children’s Book Outlet. You could always pop in to the visit the very charming and rumoured to be very ‘real’ Father Christmas at Royal Victoria Place while there too!
#21 Hever Castle’s ‘Once Upon a Castle’ – Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December
Hever Castle celebrates the history of pantomime this Christmas in ‘Once Upon A Castle’. Walk through the rooms of the Castle, adorned with beautiful decorations and welcoming log fires and learn about the evolution of pantomime. Follow the snowy Christmas trail and discover the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as you wander through the illuminated gardens as dusk falls.
Enjoy the festively decorated cafés and restaurants serving a feast of winter warmers, and be inspired by a wonderful array of seasonal gifts, luxurious decorations, toys and stocking fillers that can be found in the Hever Shop.
#22 Kent & East Sussex Railway – Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December
Take a magical train journey on Tenterden’s Steam Railway this Christmas to meet Santa on board the ever popular Santa Specials on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. On board the festively decorated steam trains, visitors will meet Santa during the 70 minute return journey to the “North Pole”.
Look out for his elf helpers with their sacks full of lovely presents – every child receives an age appropriate gift from Santa himself whilst teenagers (13 to 15) receive a scrummy box of festive chocolates. Everyone receives complimentary refreshments too. Tickets include unlimited rides on the Victorian carousel and a free family photograph in the Snow Globe. Tickets can be booked HERE. There is limited availability on 3, 4, 10, 22 and 23rd December at the time of writing this.
#23 St John’s Christmas Window Wonderland – Now until 21st December
Children are invited to follow a quiz trail leading them around the participating businesses at St John’s to find the Christmas bears and collect stickers as they go. This is a FREE activity which can be done Monday to Saturday, with donations for Tristan’s Fund at Tree of Hope, which culminates in an awards ceremony at Glazy Daisy on 21st December. #24 Hadlow Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December
The Hadlow Parish Christmas Fayre is taking place this Saturday from 1.30 to 3.30pm in Church Street and St Mary’s. A great opportunity buy your Christmas presents, cards and home-made cakes from local traders as well as crafts, advent rings and Christmas decorations. There’ll be carol singers, hot mulled wine, children’s entertainment and activities as well as gifts for kids to buy, lucky dip and much more.
#25 Hospice in the Weald Light up a Life 2016 Service – Saturday 3rd December
Join Hospice in the Weald for their Light up a Life service on Saturday 3rd December at 5.30pm – a wonderful way to remember your loved ones at Christmas. Christmas is a very special time of year at Hospice in the Weald as their community celebrates and remembers their loved ones.

#26 Manor Road Pre-School Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December
Manor Road Pre-school in Rusthall is hosting their Christmas Fair this Saturday from 10am to 12 noon. There will be lots of great craft stalls as well as fun activities for the children and Christmas carols sung by the pre-schoolers at 10.15am (how sweet)!
#27 St Mark’s Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December
St Mark’s Primary School in Tunbridge Wells is hosting their Christmas Fair this Saturday from 12 noon to 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome to go along and enjoy the games, crafts, BBQ, cakes and a visit from Father Christmas. The choir will be performing between 12.45 and 1.15 and the raffle drawn at 2.15pm too.
#28 Sleeping Beauty at The Stag Theatre – Friday 2nd December to Sunday 8th January
The Panto returns to Sevenoaks’ Stag Theatre this year for a record breaking eighth time in a row with the same producers, this time with a performance of Sleeping Beauty – a spectacular family pantomime starring EastEnders’ Fat Boy, Ricky Norwood, alongside 90’s pop sister act Cleopatra, who will be reforming to play Sleeping Beauty’s panto fairies.
Sevenoaks Panto regulars Jasette Amos, Peter Brad Leigh and Richard Tate also star in the show. There will be a live band, stunning sets and costumes and lots of laughs I’m sure!
#29 Forest Row Christmas Treat – Saturday 3rd December
Local shops and businesses in Forest Row have teamed up to host a ‘Christmas Treat’ this Saturday from 2-5pm. Walk around the village, pick up the treats along the way and get your cards stamped before meeting ‘the real’ Father Christmas. There will be horse and carriage rides too, food & wine tastings and competitions as well as story telling, carol singing and free family festive fun!
#30 Leeds Castle Christmas Market – Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December
The much loved annual Christmas Market at Leeds Castle is on again this weekend and on 10, 11, 17, 18, 22 and 23 December from 10am to 5pm. Taking place on the Cedar Lawn overlooking the Castle, discover an awesome array of seasonal gifts, toys, festive decorations, specialist food and drink and meet the reindeer and birds of prey.
In the centre of the market, enjoy nostalgic fairground attractions, children’s rides and a daily programme of live musical entertainment. Take a ride on the Victorian carousel and the high flying ‘chair-o-planes’ or take a leisurely trip on the big wheel for a spectacular view of the Castle.
Brand new ‘Bounce’ classes
Brand new ‘Bounce’ classes are coming to Tunbridge Wells with the first class launching on Tuesday 13th December. Making waves nationwide due to its effectiveness, these one hour classes are performed on mini trampolines making exercise fun by focusing on choreographed moves whilst bouncing up, down and all around! The workouts are suitable for *all levels* and abilities and Bounce prides themselves on a friendly and welcoming environment.
Classes will be on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 8.30pm and Thursdays (child friendly) from 12 to 1pm at St Barnabas Church Hall (TN1 2RH). They are easily bookable in advance on the online booking system HERE and cost £6.50. and
Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs Panto
Another spectacular family pantomime is set to take place in Tunbridge Wells for Christmas 2016 with shows from Friday 9th December until Monday 2 January. Look out for sparkling sets, beautiful costumes, hilarious antics, wonderful special effects and loads of sing-along, laugh-along fun with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Assembly Hall Theatre.
TV & Panto legend Su Pollard stars as the Wicked Queen and Jamie Rickers, of Citv and Nickelodeon, as Muddles the Jester. A pantomime needs a dame, and this year Jamie Steen stars as over-the-top Nurse Dolly Cough-Drop. This sounds like a spectacular production filled with music and dance, fun and laughter for the whole family!
The Frozen Nutcracker by Kidenza
Kidenza, classical concerts for kids, presents ‘The Frozen Nutcracker’ – a mash up of the festive Nutcracker Suite and music from Disney’s epic ‘Frozen’. Featuring world class musicians and West End performers, this show is suitable for all ages. Performances are in Horsham on 17 December 2016 (2pm) and Sevenoaks on 18th December at 2pm and 4pm. Come along for a festive concert, some well-known, exciting classics, a bit of a singalong and FUN.
Tickets which are £12 and are available from Kidenza. Children under 2 years go free. The show will last approx. 75 minutes. The Christmas concerts are sponsored by Temper Temper Chocolate, Monkey Music, Tinc and Jumping. Story Sock Sessions at PUP Cafe
Story Sock has teamed up with PUP Cafe again with sessions taking place this Tuesday 13th December (Getting in the festive mood!) and Tuesday 20th December (Time for a Christmas party!).
Sessions are for 2-5 year olds and cost £12.50 per child. This includes free entry to the Pup Cafe, a child’s lunch and a 30 minute Story Sock session featuring a festive tale and an art & craft activity. To book your place, email email@example.com.
