Six Easy Ways to Hosting The Ultimate Children’s Birthday Party Outdoors

There are endless lists to think about and plan when organising a birthday party for your children. And if you’re planning on hosting outside, there are extra areas to think about and consider too.

To help you out and make the process stress-free, you can consider an outdoor picnic birthday party idea, consider packing your food and drinks in a cooler and setting up a relaxing picnic table in your backyard or park.

We’ve put together some helpful tips to make the day as special and memorable as possible.

1. Pick a Theme

No children’s party is a hit without a fun theme so it’s always a good place to start. You could choose something which your child enjoys, such as a sport, hobby, TV show or book. Or you could go with something more general, like animals or fictional characters.

After selecting a theme that your child will love, the next step is to bring it to life through decorations. There are numerous ways to accomplish this, such as purchasing decorations from online or local stores, but it’s crucial to ensure that the decorations align perfectly with the chosen theme. Customized decorations, such as inflatables in various shapes and sizes, are excellent options for any theme.

Custom inflatable shapes are perfect for creating welcoming arches, replicating characters, and even serving as a thematic bouncy house that your child and their friends will adore. These decorations are typically made from high-quality materials and can withstand various weather conditions, making them ideal for both indoor and outdoor events.

You could award prizes for the best costumes to generate some healthy competition amongst your guests. Top tip – if you want your guests to wear fancy dress, make sure you include this on the invitation!

2. Set Up Your Decorations

Decorations are a great way to bring your party to life and incorporate your theme. These could include balloons, banners, bunting and table wear. There are lots of affordable options online, or your town may have a local party shop you could raid too. Another great addition to your garden is to install a fabric shade sail, as this creates a cool and safe place for the children to spend time in. This also works well if you’re planning a pirate theme, as it can look and feel like the sail of a boat. But if you’re working to a tight budget, you could make your own decorations such as paper chains and streamers.

3. Cook Up a Storm

And of course, we can’t forget one of the best parts of any party – the food! Again this is an area which you can keep tied in to your theme, from specially shaped biscuits to custom cakes. You can use whipped cream to create tempting cakes. And if you want to add a little extra zing to your whipped cream, you can use ultra pure cream charger. It is used in canning and in the preparation of whipped cream, frosting, and other desserts. Make sure that you cater for all of your guest’s requirements, remember to check for any allergies or other dietary requirements. As well as the popular sweet treats, include some healthier options such as sandwiches and fruit salads. If you have any leftover food after the little ones have finished munching away, you could pop these into the party bags.

4. Plan Some Fun Games

A lot of children love being competitive so you could plan some traditional games such as egg and spoon races and a tug of war to encourage everyone to get involved. The birthday girl or boy could pick teams too, with a prize going to the winning side at the end of the party. Depending on how much space you have in your garden, you could also play games like rounders, padel or cricket. You could also make use of what you already have in your garden, from using outdoor gym equipment pieces to burn off some sugar to having an egg hunt with your chicken coop.

5. Get Creative With Your Activities

If you’re hosting a party outside in your garden, you’ll be able to plan a wide range of fun activities to keep your guests entertained. If you have some pieces of wood or branches, you could build dens. Or you could send everyone around with magnifying glasses and notebooks to find as many different bugs and insects as they can. If you’re not afraid of allowing the children to get a little messy and muddy, you could make mud pies or other fun crafts together. Or if the weather is looking hot, blow up a paddling pool or a slip ‘n slide to keep everyone cool and comfortable.

6. Remember to Stay Safe

It can be all too easy to focus on keeping everyone happy, fed and entertained but it’s also vital to remember the group’s safety. You could also a couple of the parents to stay and help supervise the children, especially if you have a larger garden. It’s also a good idea to have a fully equipped first aid kit to hand. During the summer months, you should hand out sun cream to keep everyone safe, and potentially look into adding an outdoor canopy too.

Hopefully, now you feel more prepared and ready to plan and tackle your next birthday party. By taking the time to get the little details right, you can make sure the day runs smoothly and successfully. More importantly, have fun and make some memories!
